Keywords:

This paper presents a critical review of Marxian literature on unpaid housework. This review is structured in three main controversies: the concept and nature of unpaid housework, the economic role of unpaid housework in capitalism, and the unequal distribution of unpaid housework within the households. The review focuses on recent literature, debates, and contemporary authors. Nevertheless, several relevant classical papers were also incorporated. Within each controversy, the ideas, schools of thought, and main authors were critically assessed showing their contributions, limitations, and contradictions. Finally, the perspectives of the debate on unpaid housework are presented.
